Due to the increasing number of potential targets, a cyberterrorist attack with the potential to be catastrophic could occur. Physical terrorist attacks require the simultaneous attack of multiple locations, necessitating additional planning and personnel. Kenney (2015) claims that a single button click is all it takes to launch a series of potentially devastating terrorist attacks. These scenarios raise the question of whether or not a devastating cyberterrorist attack is imminent. Cyberterrorism poses an even greater threat because of the possibility of such attacks being coordinated across a broader area. Terrorism carried out physically poses a threat to global security. In addition, technology and innovation in various societal sectors increase the likelihood of cyberattacks. Attacks can be more devastating than in the past when they required physical execution because society relies on the internet, and people can remotely control the internet. According to Professors Macdonald, Jarvis, and Chen, cyber-attacks pose a real threat due to technological and innovation advancements. Cyber-terrorism and threats also benefit from advancements in other technology and innovation fields (MacDonald et al.,2019). Cyberattacks have emerged as an essential option for nations to use against rivals.
